Palma de Mallorca: Hidden Gems Beyond the Beach
Join me as I explore the stunning capital of Mallorca! From breathtaking cathedral views to secret local tapas spots - everything you need to know about Palma.
Palma de Mallorca completely stole my heart! While most people think of Mallorca as just beaches and nightlife, the capital city is a treasure trove of culture, history, and incredible food. Here’s everything from my latest vlog adventure!
Why Palma Should Be on Your List
I went to Palma expecting beautiful beaches, but what I found was so much more. This city perfectly blends medieval charm with modern sophistication, and honestly, I could have spent weeks there.
The Absolute Must-Sees
La Seu Cathedral The Gothic masterpiece that dominates Palma’s skyline. But here’s the insider tip from my vlog - go at sunset! The way the light hits the cathedral and reflects off the Mediterranean is absolutely magical. I spent hours here just filming different angles.
Bellver Castle This circular castle offers the best panoramic views of the city. It’s a bit of a hike, but trust me, it’s worth every step. The footage I got here was some of my favorite from the entire trip.
Old Town Wandering Getting lost in the narrow streets of Palma’s old town was definitely a highlight. Every corner reveals something new - hidden courtyards, charming cafes, and local artisan shops.
Food Adventures (The Real MVPs)
Tapas Route in Santa Catalina The local market area is where the real food magic happens. I tried:
- Fresh seafood at Bar Joan
- The best pan con tomate of my life
- Local sobrasada (a must-try Mallorcan delicacy)
Ensaimada Hunt You haven’t been to Mallorca without trying ensaimada! I visited three different bakeries trying to find the perfect one. Spoiler alert: they were all amazing.
Behind the Scenes
What you didn’t see in the vlog:
- I got completely lost trying to find Bellver Castle (classic Sara move!)
- The wind nearly blew my camera off the cathedral steps twice
- I accidentally ordered octopus thinking it was chicken (it was actually delicious!)
Budget Breakdown
3 days in Palma:
- Accommodation: €45/night (cute Airbnb in Santa Catalina)
- Food: €35/day (mix of restaurants and local markets)
- Activities: €25 total (cathedral entry, castle visit)
- Transport: €15 (airport bus + city walking)
Total: About €180 for 3 incredible days
What Surprised Me Most
The local art scene! Palma has incredible galleries and street art that I wasn’t expecting. The contemporary art museum (Es Baluard) had some mind-blowing exhibitions.
Planning Your Own Palma Adventure
Best Time to Visit: April-June or September-October How Long: 3-4 days is perfect for the city, longer if you want beaches too Getting Around: Walking is best, everything is close Language: Spanish and Catalan, but English is widely spoken in tourist areas
